History: Malayan Airways was founded in 1937 with operations beginning on May 1, 1947. In 1963 the airline was renamed Malaysian Airways for the new Federation of Malaysia.
Malaysia-Singapore Airlines was formed in the 1965 separation of Singapore from the Federation of Malaysia, which saw Malaysian Airways renamed to Malaysia-Singapore Airways (MSA). The two nations flew joint services, but the airline separated into Malaysian Air System (MAS) and Singapore Airlines (SIA) in 1971.
