de Havilland DHC-8

Designed as a 30 to 40 seat commuter airliner, the Dash 8 features a high mounted wing, T-tail, and full length trailing edge flaps, similar to the earlier four-engine Dash 7. Since 1996, all Dash 8s delivered have been fitted with a computer controlled noise and vibration suppression system (or NVS), reflected in the designation changed to Dash 8Q (Q for "quiet").

Variants include (now produced by Bombardier):

  • -Q300, offering an 11 ft. 3 in. fuselage stretch and longer wings. Seating capacity increased to 50-56 in single class configuration.
  • -Q400, featuring a 22 ft. 5 in. fuselage stretch over the Q300 and new horizontal tail. The fuselage's cross section and nose remain distinctively Dash 8.
