Tupolev Tu-334

Developed as a replacement for the Tu-134, the Tu-334 is based on the much larger Tu-204. Similarities include an identical flightdeck, shortened Tu-204 fuselage and similar, albeit smaller, wing. Design features differentiating the Tu-334 from the Tu-204 (apart from size) are the rear fuselage mounted engines, T-tail and fly-by-wire flight controls. Tu-334 program began in 1986, with first flight was originally scheduled for 1991 and service entry by 1993. However, economical turmoil in the USSR/CIS delayed prototype flights for several years.

The Tu-334 project currently involves the development of a family of short-range passenger and cargo airplanes based on the Tu-334-100 baseline version. The planned Tu-354 features a fuselage stretched by 12 ft., and accommodating 110 to 126 passengers. Other modifications include include more powerful D436T2 or BR71555 turbofans, an increased wingspan and four wheel main undercarriage units.
