SriLankan Airlines


SriLankan Airlines flag carrier of Sri Lanka, operating international scheduled passenger and cargo services from its based in Colombo's Bandaranaike International Airport to more than 30 destinations in Asia, the Middle East and Europe. The Airline was previously known as AirLanka when it was established on 10 January 1979 after taking over Air Ceylon which had been founded in 1947. The new airline began operations on 1 September 1979 with only two Boeing 707s leased from Singapore Airlines. Emirates Airline acquired a major stake and management control on 1 April 1998, when the present name and corporate identity was adopted.
