National carrier of New Zealand, flying international services from Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown, mainly to points in Australia and the South Pacific, but extending to North America and Europe. Extensive domestic services are also flown throughout New Zealand's North and South islands. Air NZ was founded in 1939 as Tasman Empire Airways Ltd. and began operations to Australia with flying boats on 30 April 1940. The present name was adopted on 1 April 1965. Air New Zealand is a member of Star Alliance.
