Germanwings is a low-cost airline and a subsidiary of regional airlines Eurowings. Based in Cologne, Germany. It operates services to over 66 destinations in Europe. Its main base is in Cologne Bonn Airport, with secondary bases at Stuttgurt Airport, Berlin Schonefeld Internatopnal Airport and Hamburg Airport and Dortmund Airport. On 29 January 2008, plans were announced to merge low-cost airlines operations of Deutsche Lufthansa AG and TUI Travel PLC (Germanwings, Eurowings, TUIfly) into a joint and independent holding company.
Germanwings was established in 2002 and began flying on 27 October that same year.
